Barkhuizen was entering the last 12 months of his contract but has now signed a new three year deal. The forward has had an impact at the club since joining from Motrecambe.
When on form Barkhuizen has added pace and goals to the team. He has gone through spells where his form has dipped but much of that seemed down to a mysterious illness which was affecting his performance levels.
At the start of last season fans were allegedly getting to Barkhuizen who celebrated his goal against Wigan acknowledging the criticism received. He is an asset to the side when on form and will have competition for his place this season with Bodin back fit.
