Johnson has been a squad member at Preston but has found it hard to break into the starting eleven ahead of rival midfielders. Despite this it appears Preston are keen to hold onto the midfielder after rebuffing an approach from Wigan.
The move comes somewhat out of the blue and Preston do not have to sell after allowing Robinson to leave earlier in the summer for a substantial sum. It is unclear if Wigan will make further moves to tempt Johnson to leave.
