Due to international matches Preston moved their League Cup First Round tie against Mansfield. The early game which was slotted into a shortened pre-season proved no problem for North End.
Despite Mansfield hitting the post early on Preston were rarely troubled. Barkhuizen gave Preston the lead with the pick of the goals after a shot from range.
Maguire doubled the lead when he was played through before Bauer was left unmarked at a corner to stab home. The lead was comfortbale at the break but a Harrop goal concluded the victory in the second half.
The League Cup has a staggered start this season so Preston will have to wait a little while longer before they find out their opponents in the next round.
