League Leaders Toppled

Frankie McCavoy has had a troublesome few weeks coming under pressure but he picked up the best result of his short managerial reign away at Bournemouth.

After defeating a poor Luton side at the weeked Preston kept the same starting eleven. The formation worked as it allowed North End to soak up the Bournemouth attack.

The home side had the majority of the ball but the play was all in front of Preston and Iversen was not called into action. After the break Preston grew in confidence.

Whiteman gave Preston the lead as they broke into the box. He managed to place a ball into the top corner from close range after Preston surged forward.

The home team equalised with their first real attempt on goal. Billing found space in the box to shoot past the outstretched arm of Iversen. Preston were not deterred.

McCann gave Preston the lead again as he finished off a smart move by firing home from inside the box. Riis should have secured the game but his touch deserted him when he was one on one as he fired against the keeper.

There was one late chance as a long range effort was saved by Iversen but it bounced up. Iversen managed to save the rebound from point blank range to secure all three points for Preston.

This victory should give Preston some confidence going into the game against Forest before the international break.
