North End have been struggling since the international break and were thumped away at Hull last week. This was always going to be a tricky task at home to West Brom who have been leading the charge this season.
Neil had to name a changed line up through injuries. Regular centre backs Davies and Bauer were out to Storey and Huntington deputised with the latter starting for the first time this season.
Browne filled ina t right back with Rafferty continuing on the left. There was a change in shape inmidfield as Pearson sat in front of the back four whilst Barkhuizen Maguire and Potts played further forward supporting Stockley.
The lone striker played well winning numerous balls but in the first half he lacked any real support with Potts looking well off the pace. The visitors had numerous chances in the first half but the game remained goalless at the break thanks to Rudd and some off target finishing.
Preston improved in the second period and had chances to score but could not convert or find the final pass. The game looked to be heading for a draw until the final moments changed everything.
Edwards latched on to a loose ball. Rudd raced out towards the forward. Ewdrads was facing away from goal and replays show no contact between the two but the West Brom player flung himself to the ground.
The referee who was well behind play gave a penalty which Austin converted and gave the visitors the win int he last minute. The decision was unjust given there was no contact and it was simultation from Edwards.
Preston now sit in sixth but need to stop this run of three losing games given the festive period can see major swings in the table due to the amount of points available. North End head to QPR on table hoping to stay in the play off places.
