Harrop has been used sparingly by Alex Neil despite being Preston's most expensive signing. He was used as a substitute again late on on Saturday but was injured before the end of the game.
He has torn his anterior cruciate ligament which requires an operation. It is estimated that he will be on the sidelines for a period of around seven months.
