O'Neill played in defence for 45 minutes in a bid to regain some fitness with Joe Anyinsah also taking part. United had Alan Smith and Rossi paired up front - a match for most top flight clubs along with a midfield of Dave Jones, Chris Eagles and Liam Miller.
All in all United were too strong with Preston holding out for 1-1 at half time thanks to a Lewis Neal goal. The second half was all one way with Stock getting the consolation goal. However, the aim of the night was to get some much needed match practice ahead of the forthcoming matches.
