Preston took the lead on 14 minutes after trialist Michael Potts had been brought down in the penalty area and Danny Mayor scored from the spot.
The Clarets equalised six minutes before the end of the first half from Martin Paterson. Just before half time PNE took the lead again with Mayor scoring his second on the night.
The 2-1 lead lasted until five minutes from the end when Michael King scored for Burnley to make it 2-2. In the last minute Danny Mayor scored his and the Lilywhites third of the night.
The 3-2 victory over second placed Burnley meant that Preston won the Totesport.com league title with a game to spare.
