Across The Pond

There is plenty of action to report on in the MLS involving the two former Lilywhites based across the pond. First up is Danny Dichio and Toronto FC who welcomed the visit of DC United from Washington on Wednesday. After a defensive mix up with Devon McTavish and goalkeeper Zach Wells, Dichio snuck in capitalise and scored from an acute angle after 7 minutes. The goal was enough to seal the win for the Reds.

On Saturday it was Toronto's turn to be the visitors as they travelled to the Capital to face DC United, hoping to make it two wins in a row. It looked as though history would repeat itself as Dichio gave Toronto an early lead, heading in a Jim Brennan cross after 16 minutes. Gonzalo Peralta equalised for DC just before half time with it looking like the teams would go in at the break on level terms. However, in first half stoppage time Dichio made it 2-1 to Toronto with a superb finish from the edge of the area that whistled passed Zach Wells into the bottom corner. Jaime Moreno put DC back on level terms after 70 minutes leaving the game delicately poised until just two minutes later when DC got the third which turned out to be the winner. Toronto goalkeeper , Greg Sutton spilled a Santino Quaranta shot right into the path of Luciano Emilio who had the simple task of putting the ball into an empty net to give DC the win.

Up next for Dichio and Toronto is a trip to Montreal to take on the Montreal Impact on Tuesday and the visit of LA Galaxy on Saturday.

Speaking of LA Galaxy, David Beckham and his team mates travelled to Pizza Hut Park to take on FC Dallas on Sunday 18th. Galaxy were in fine form and hammered Dallas 5-1 in what was their biggest win of the season so far. David Beckham provided an assist for Landon Donovan for Galaxy's 5th goal.

Beckham did get himself on the score sheet against Kansas City Wizards a few days late though in their 3-1 win at the Home Depot Centre.  With the score at 2-1 and entering stoppage time, Kansas goalkeeper Kevin Hartman went up for a corner in a bid to bring the score level. The ball was cleared out to Beckham who let rip with a 60 yard strike and made it 3-1 to kill the game off as the ball trickled into an empty net.

Tuesday sees Beckham and Galaxy welcome the visit of Colorado Rapids before travelling north of the border to take on Danny Dichio and Toronto FC.
