Across The Pond

As ever, there is plenty of action to report on in the United States including the USA national team being captained by former Preston winger, Eddie Lewis.

David Beckham

We shall kick off with the LA Galaxy, who travelled to the nation's capital to take on DC United on Sunday. With both teams being the two highest scoring in the MLS, there was a good chance it was going to be a goal fest in Washington. And with a score line of 4-1, the game certainly did not disappoint goal wise.

Despite wanting to get back to winning ways following last week's draw with Columbus Crew, it was the Galaxy who were on the receiving end of the 4-1 defeat. With just 4 minutes on the clock, Jazic for DC United was awkwardly pushed down Santino Quaranta from behind just a step into the penalty area. The referee immediately blew and gave the spot kick which was expertly converted by Jamie Moreno, sending Cronin in the Galaxy goal the wrong way.

Galaxy almost hit back with an equaliser after 20 minutes; a tantalising ball in from Beckham towards the six yard box was put in by Donovan, only for him to see the linesman with his flag up on the near side. Galaxy's endeavour was eventually rewarded just 5 minutes later; Donovan this time the creator, slid a ball towards Edson Buddle who capitalised on a defensive mix up. He just had the keeper to beat, 1-1.

Hoping to go in at half time level, Galaxy let their concentration slip and found themselves 2-1 down. A towering header from Luciano Emilio after 36 minutes, put DC United's noses in front. After the break, Galaxy seemed to collapse as after 60 minutes, they found themselves 3-1 down thanks to a Marcello Gallardo finish. Eight minutes later the game was killed off; Luciano Emilio grabbed his second of the game to make it an emphatic 4-1 win over the Galaxy.

Up next for the Galaxy is the New England Revolution on the 4th of July. With Galaxy now without a win in two, there should be plenty fireworks on the 4th July as the Galaxy look to get back to winning ways. Preston transfer target, Taylor Twellman isn't expected to be fit for the Revs as he is still recovering from a knock.

Danny Dichio

Danny Dichio and his Toronto FC team mates were on the receiving end of a defeat also. The Revs, minus the injured Taylor Twellman beat the visitors from north of the border 2-1 thanks to two goals from Steve Ralston. Up next for the Reds is a match against the Vancouver Whitecaps in a Canadian Qualifying Tournament CONCACAF Champions League game on first July.

USA National Team

Since our last update, the USA national team were in action and captained by former Preston winger, Eddie Lewis. Lewis also got himself on the score sheet as the USA recorded a 9-0 aggregate win over Barbados.

Other MLS News

There doesn't seem to be much of a change in the Brian McBride transfer saga other than that Fire coach, Brian Bliss is refusing to pay the asking price for that Toronto are demanding. Unless a deal is sorted out soon, it will be north of the border where Alrington Heights native, McBride is heading.
