Across The Pond

Brian McBride/Chicago Fire

Over in the MLS, Brian McBride netted his second goal since moving to his native Chicago Fire, albeit a scant consolation as Fire were comprehensively beaten 4-1 by FC Dallas. Fire were already 3-0 down at half time meaning that it would have been some feat if Chicago were to salvage anything from this match. McBride's goal came deep into stoppage time.

The defeat to the Texans means that Fire have won just one in their last five and are currently third in the Eastern Standings, nine points behind leaders, and McBride's former club, Columbus Crew.

David Beckham & Eddie Lewis/LA Galaxy

After a dismal run, LA Galaxy got back to winning ways in emphatic fashion after coming out victorious in a seven goal thriller with DC United. When DC took the lead it looked like it would be yet another bad day at the office for LA, however just over 20 minutes later, Landon Donovan got the equaliser before adding a second with an assist from David Beckham. Alan Gordon made it three before the break sending the Galaxy in with a comfortable lead. Hoping to get themselves back in the game quickly, DC pulled one back through Thabiso Khumalo only for Peter Vagenas and Landon Donovan to complete the scoring in the 5-2 rout. Eddie Lewis also played in the match.

The victory for Galaxy ended a run of twelve games without a win and means that the Californians move off the foot of the Western Standings.

Danny Dichio/Toronto FC

North of the border in Toronto, the Reds suffered another defeat this time in the hands of the Kansas City Wizards. Danny Dichio came on as a second half substitute with the scored tied at 0-0 with the view to making an impact. However, just ten minutes after the introduction of the former QPR striker, Kansas went ahead through Jack Jewsbury before Kevin Souter completed the scoring with just seven minutes remaining. Toronto have just one win in their last thirteen MLS fixtures meaning that they are still propping up the Eastern Standings.
