Old Boys Carling Cup Round-Up

With Preston preparing for this weekend's Lancashire derby with Blackpool, a handful of former Lilywhites were in action this week in the Carling Cup.

Claude Davis played the full 90 minutes at centre back for Derby County's 2-1 win over Leeds. The Rams, who of course knocked North End out in the second round, were two goals up inside the first twenty minutes after Villa and Ellington had both found the back of the net. Becchio pulled one back for Leeds just before half time but proved not to be enough to spark a comeback. David Lucas was an unused substitute for Leeds.

Danny Pugh got himself on the score sheet for Stoke on Tuesday night after being given a rare start. Pugh, who moved to the Britannia Stadium in January 2008, netted Stoke's final goal of the evening to seal a 2-0 win over Rotherham, booking their place in the Quarter-Finals. Richard Cresswell also started for the Potters whilst Ricardo Fuller came on as a second half substitute.

Hungarian international striker Tamas Priskin played the full 90 minutes for Watford's 1-0 win over fellow Championship side Swansea whilst getting himself booked in the process.

Pacey forward Patrick Agyemang came off the bench for QPR's 1-0 defeat to Manchester United on Tuesday night. The former Gillingham striker came on midway through the first half to replace the injured Akos Buzsaky.

Kevin Kilbane, who this week backed his former colleague Alan Irvine to take Preston up to the Premiership, was an unused substitute for Wigan's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Last, but by no means least, on Wednesday night Graham Alexander was part of the Burnley line-up that pulled off the upset of the round. With the score at 1-1 come full-time and indeed extra-time, the game went to penalties where Alexander was first up to convert for Burnley. The Clarets won 5-4 on penalties sending the travelling Burnley supporters into raptures.
