Old Boys Midweek Carling Cup Round-Up

On Tuesday night the Clarets took on Premier League giants Arsenal at Turf Moor with the winners being able to book their places in the semi-finals.

Graham Alexander played the full ninety minutes as Burnley produced another miraculous performance to see off Arsenal in a 2-0 win. Kevin McDonald netted both goals either side of half-time to send the Turf Moor faithful into waves of ecstasy and the East Lancashire side into the semi-finals.

Another Premiership team was knocked out on Tuesday night as Stoke City fell victim to a Nathan Ellington penalty to give Derby County a 1-0 win. Derby, who of course knocked Preston out in the second round, were without the injured Claude Davis but Stoke on the other hand had a smattering of ex-Preston players.

Danny Pugh, who scored in the last round, came on as a late substitute whilst Richard Cresswell and Ricardo Fuller both started for the Potters.

On Wednesday, Tamas Priskin put Watford 1-0 up at Vicarage Road with just 13 minutes on the clock against Tottenham Hotspurs. Goals from Pavlyuchenko and Darren Bent for Spurs made sure that not another Premier League club were to bow out of the competition.
