Old Boys Midweek Round-Up

With a full Championship card taking place during the week it would be rude not to see how the former Lilywhites got on during those fixtures.

Starting with Tuesday night and with Burnley in particular, Graham Alexander played the full ninety minutes for the Clarets' 2-2 draw with Cardiff City at Turf Moor. Former Cardiff striker Steve Thompson came back to haunt his old club by netting a 76th minute equaliser to force a point.

There was more misery for Charlton Athletic and Andy Gray in particular who came on as a second half substitute for the Addicks' 2-1 defeat to Coventry City. The former Burnley and Sunderland striker was largely ineffective, failing to find the net for the fifth game in a row as Charlton prop up the Championship table.

Kelvin Wilson was unable to prevent Brian Howard from netting his first goal in Sheffield United colours to give the Blades the win over Nottingham Forest. Forest find themselves on the same points as Charlton and help them prop up the table.

Preston's next opponents, Birmingham City recorded a 1-0 win over Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday. Paul Gallagher started up front for the Pilgrims but was unable to pose a threat to the Blues whilst Yoann Folly had to make do with a place on the bench.

Brian Stock came up against his old club for the first team since his Deepdale departure in the 2007. The former Bournemouth midfielder was unable to make his return to Preston a memorable one as the Yorkshire outfit were beaten by a Jon Parkin goal in the 82nd minute.

Having forced his way into Paulo Sousa's plans recently, Patrick Agyemang regained his place in the QPR line-up against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Agyemang and QPR were left with a long trip back down to West London after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Wednesday.

Simon Davey's Barnsley threw away a two goal lead to end up sharing the points against Swansea on Tuesday night. Jon Macken put the visitors ahead in the 49th minute before Jamal Campbell-Ryce put day light between the two sides with a 56th minute penalty. Jason Scotland pulled one back ten minutes later before netting an equaliser in the 4th minute of added time to break Barnsley hearts.

Matt Hill made his debut for Wolves on Tuesday night during the 3-0 win over Paul Jewell's Derby County. The former Bristol City full back has just come back from a frustrating spell on the sidelines following his transfer from Preston in the summer.

To conclude our round-up, on Wednesday Tamas Priskin fired Watford into a 16th minute lead but this time the Hornets managed to emerge from their fixture with Norwich as winners. Tommy Smith made it two on 64 minutes after Croft had equalised for the Canaries.
