Old Boys Midweek Round-Up Part One

Despite the weather preventing a good number of Football League matches from taking place in midweek, there were a few games that went ahead and some that contained former Lilywhites on Tuesday night.

We shall start at our very own Deepdale where Paul Gallagher, despite early reports suggesting he would miss out through injury, made his Deepdale return. The on-loan Blackburn striker was part of the Plymouth side that held the Lilywhites to a 1-1 draw at Deepdale. Mackie put the visitors ahead against the run of play in the first-half before Jon 'the Beast' Parkin equalised just before half-time.

In League One, Jemal Johnson started up-front for the MK Dons' 1-0 win over Stockport on Tuesday night. Johnson was substituted after 75 minutes and replaced by Powell. MK Dons currently occupy 2nd place, 10 points behind high-flying Leicester.

In League Two, former Reading full-back John Halls played the vast majority of Brentford's 2-0 defeat away to Morecambe, before being substituted in stoppage time. Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Twiss netted the first before Howe wrapped up the scoring in the 89th minute.

Paul Simpson's Shrewsbury Town got back to winning ways after two games without a win after securing a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley. Michael Jackson played the full ninety minutes whilst both Kelvin Langmead and Dave Hibbert made substitute appearances in the second half. Colin Murdock was an unused substitute for Accrington Stanley.

In the FA Cup, Burnley knocked-out Premier League West Brom with a 3-1 win at Turf Moor. Graham Alexander played the full ninety minutes for the Clarets who booked their place in the 5th round. A Wade Elliott goal just before half-time and a Steve Thompson brace completed the scoring for the Clarets.

Wednesday see's Sunderland take on Blackburn at Ewood Park where David Healy is expected to be handed a start whilst Doncaster and Brian Stock take on Villa, David Moyes' Everton welcome Liverpool and Billy Davies' Nottingham Forest take on his old club Derby in what are all FA Cup 4th Round replays.
