Old Boys Weekend Round Up

Starting, as ever, with the Premier League where David Healy made his home debut for Sunderland on Sunday. After scoring the winner in the Black Cats' League Cup in midweek, Healy was again sent on to make an impact but with home side losing by three goals to nil, it would have been a tall order for the Northern Ireland international to salvage something for his new club.

David Moyes' was also on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat but instead to Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth at Goodison Park. Everton, who are desperately trying to add to their squad, find themselves in 17th on just three points from as many fixtures.

Kevin Kilbane was in the Wigan side that hammered Hull 5-0 at the KC Stadium. Up until Saturday, Hull were unbeaten in the Premier League and were hoping that said run would continue but sadly for Phil Brown, it was not to be. It was Kilbane's cross which set up the opener as Sam Ricketts turned it into his own net.

Stoke City will be bitterly disappointed to have lost to Middlesbrough especially with it looking likely that the points would be shared with just five minutes remaining. Tuncay broke Potters hearts when he netted the winner late on. Ricardo Fuller played the full 90 minutes with Richard Cresswell coming on as a late substitute.

Jon Macken was in from the start for Simon Davey's Barnsley as they saw off Derby at Oakwell. Iain Hulme, once a target of Preston, was on the score sheet for the Tykes. Tyrone Mears looks to have played his last game for Derby after completing a season long loan move to Marseille. Claude Davis was an unused substitute for the Rams. Ro Kozluk also played the full 90 minutes for Barnsley.

Patrick Agyemang was a late substitute for QPR in their 1-1 draw with Bristol City. With the score tied at 1-1, Agyemang was sent on with the intent of getting a winner for the London club but was unable to have the desired impact.

Paul Gallagher made his debut for the Pilgrims on Saturday against Burnley at Turf Moor. The game finished a bore draw with Graham Alexander in from the start for the Clarets.

Vicarage Road saw another two former loaned Preston players feature for their respective clubs. Tamas Priskin who was brought in at the back end of last season, started up front for the Hornets with Tommy Miller in Ipswich's side. The game finished 2-1 to Watford.

David Jones opened the scoring for Wolves in their 5-1 thrashing of Nottingham Forest at Molineux on Saturday. Kelvin Wilson made his comeback from injury for Forrest having made a second half substitute appearance.

Former Burnley striker Andy Gray netted a first half penalty for Charlton at Deepdale having seen Luke Varney hacked down by Youl Mawene. Second half goals from Neil Mellor and Barry Nicholson gave North End a deserved victory.

Brian Stock was in the starting eleven for Doncaster Rovers' 1-0 win over Coventry on Saturday which concludes our round up of the Championship.

To League One now, where former skipper Chris Lucketti captained Huddersfield Town for their 2-1 defeat to Millwall at the New Den.

David Lucas continued in goal for Leeds United, making his first league appearance of the season having already featured in their Carling Cup fixture with Crystal Palace where he kept a clean sheet in a surprise 4-0 win.

Another former skipper, namely Sean Gregan, was in action for Oldham Athletic as they drew 2-2 with Colchester United. Oldham currently find themselves in 2nd place after their good start to the campaign.

In League Two, Kelvin Langmead, Michael Jackson and David Hibbert all featured for Paul Simpson's Shrewsbury Town in their 2-2 draw with Notts County. Adam Nowland was a notable absentee from Notts County's squad after facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines through injury. After getting themselves off to a good start, Shrewsbury now find themselves joint top of League Two.

Colin Murdock was at the heart of the Accrington Stanley defence but despite his endeavours, Stanley were defeated by Gillingham 1-0. John Mullin also played for Stanley.

Luton Town travelled to St James Park to take on Marcus Stewart and his Exeter City teammates. Kevin Nicholls captained the Luton side in the 1-0 win and was credited with an assist for Sam Parkin's goal.

Last but by no means least; Brian Barry-Murphy was present as Bury recorded a 1-1 draw with nearby Rochdale. Bury are on the same points as Shrewsbury and Dagenham & Redbridge at the top of League Two.

Dropping outside of the football league now to the conference where former stopper Gavin Ward was between the sticks for Wrexham as they recorded yet another impressive win, this time against Salisbury City with the score at 4-1.
