Carl Boyeson started refereeing on the Hull Sunday League in 1992, promoted via the Unibond League to the National List of assistant referees in 1996 then to the select Group of assistant referees in 2000. He then joined the National List of referees in 2002. He has refereed two semi finals of the FA Vase and was 4th Official for the FA Youth Cup Final in 2000.

His first league game was on 18/8/02 when Bury beat Swansea 3-2 with Steve Watkin of the Swans receiving a red card. His first Championship game was the Ipswich v PNE match later in the season.

Over the seasons the number of yellow cards produce have reduce year on year. Last season 16 matches no cards were produced during the games, including the PNE v Swansea match.

His last game was on 18/08/09 which produced a goalless draw between Doncaster and Coventry, which two yellows were produced. His last Leicester game was on 6/12/08 which saw Leicester beat Southend 3-0 with 3 yellow cards.
