David Foster started as a referee in 1999 in Newcastle. He worked his way up to Conference level, taking charge of the 2003 Play Off match when Morecambe played Dagenham and Redbridge.

He was promoted to the Referee's National List in 2006 and made his debut on 5/8/06 as Walsall won 1-0 at Rochdale. his last game was on 20/10/09 as Accrington beat Shrewsbury 2-0 at the Crown Ground. Although he has refereed a few Championship matches it will be his first match with either Preston or Crystal Palace.

2009/10 - 5 matches;14 yellow and 2 red cards.
2008/09 - 23 matches; 45 yellow and 4 red cards.
2007/08 - 28 matches; 76 yellow and 7 red cards.
2006/07 - 23 matches; 45 yellow and 5 red cards.

His assiatants are Gary Hilton from Lancashire and Andrew Hutchinson from Cheshire. Also from Cheshire is the fourth official Peter Davies.
