Kevin Friend started refereeing at age thirteen within his home county of Leicestershire. His route was via the Leicester Senior League and Midland Football Alliance before being promoted to the National List of Referees in 2003. His first game was on 9 August 2003 between Scunthorpe and Bristol Rovers with the visitors winning 2-1.

So far this season he has produced 102 yellow cards and 6 red in 37 matches, the last game was on 10 March between Southampton and Derby which produced no cards.

The assistants on Saturday are Simon Clayton from Co.Durham and Glyn Mellor of Derbyshire. The Fourth official is Paul Norris from Cheshire.
