It's Miller Time Again

Last updated : 26 January 2015 By @pnemad

Nigel Miller retired from the police in 2008, he was a Sergeant with Durham Constabulary and left after 30 years of service. He started as a referee in 1989 and appointed to the National list of assistant referees in 1996. He spent some time on the Select Group list and was one of the assistants in the 2003 FA Cup Final when Arsenal beat Southampton.

He was promoted to National List referee in 2003 with his debut being a 2-2 draw between Huddersfield and Cambridge on 9 August 2003. He took charge of a League One Play-Off Semi-Final leg in 2012 between Sheffield United and Stevenage and in 2013 between Brentford and Swindon.

On 9 March 2013, Nigel Miller gave Brighton’s Ashley Barnes a red card in stoppage time against Bolton for attempting to trip up the referee. Barnes was subsequently handed a seven-match suspension by the Football Association.

He was appointed as the referee for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final at Wembley on 7 April 2013 when Crewe beat Southend 2-0.

His last match was a 2-1 win for Brentford at Norwich on 24 January. His last Walsall match was a 1-0 home defeat to Bristol City on 12 April 2014.
