Jarnail Singh started refereeing in Wolverhampton in 1985 and progressed through the Suburban and Southern Leagues to reach the National List of assistant referees in 2000. He was promoted to the National List of Referees in 2004 and his first match was a 2-2 draw between Bristol Rovers and Bury on 10 August 2004 which saw Colin Woodthope sent off for the Shakers.
His last game saw an eleven goal thriller on 13 March which saw Cheltenham win 6-4 at Burton. On 28 December 2009 the referee produced twelve yellow cards in the match between Bournemouth and Torquay. The home side won 2-1 win a last minute penalty. This will be his first match in charge of a West Brom game and the first Lilywhite game since 2007/08.
