Mike Jones for Chester will referee his 20th match involving PNE on Saturday as he takes charge of his second NW derby inside four days.

Mike Jones started as a referee at the age of 15. After four years as an assistant referee he was appointed to the National List of referees in 1997/98. His first game was a 2-0 victory for Mansfield over Hull on 9 August 1997, whilst his first League One match as at Deepdale just under two months later. He was the fourth official for the 2004 Carling Cup Final and his senior refereeing appointments include 1997 Conference League Cup Final, 2005 FA Women’s Cup Final, and in 2007 the Division Two Play Off Final between Bristol Rovers and Shrewsbury at Wembley.

 

For the 2008/09 he was included into the Select Group of referees, His first Premier League match was the 5-0 win for Wigan at Hull in August and officiated the match between West Ham and Stoke when he sent off ex-northender Ricardo Fuller for slapping his captain.

 

His last match was a 2-0 victory for Manchester City over Bolton on 9 February. His last Blackpool match was the same scoreline at home to Charlton on 6 December 2008.

His assistants are Scott Ledger and Bobby Madley from Yorkshire. The fourth official will be Tony Bates from Staffordshire if he has recovered from the injury he suffered at Coventry. His last Lilywhites game was the 0-0 draw against West Brom on 3 October 2009.
