Trevor Kettle started refereeing in 1983, reaching the National List of assistant referees in 1998, he was a Select Group assistant from 2000 until his promotion to the National List of Referees in 2003. His first match was a 4-2 home win for Swansea at home to Bury on 9 August 2003.

His last match was a 4-0 win for Leicester at home to QPR whilst his last Scunthorpe match was on Boxing Day 2008 in a 3-0 home victory over Hartlepool.
