You have to go back to saeson 2005/06 for his last match as Preston drew 2-2 at Cardiff on 18 October 2005. A Sedgwick goal in injury time sealed a point with Mears scoring the first goal.

His last Deepdale match was earlier in the year  on 30 April 2005 with a 1-1 draw against Wigan, with an O'Neill equaliser.

The one defeat under Howard Webb was at Crewe on 21 October 2003. Ethuhu scored in the 2-1 defeat which saw PNE striker Fuller get a straight red on 37 minutes.

Another draw on 23 November 2002, this time 2-2 at home to Brighton. Lucketti and Cresswell scored for PNE. But the match  was remembered for Creswwell, Edwards Etuhu, Lewis and Murdock getting five of the eight yellow cards that day.

The only victory under Howard Webb was on 3 November 2001, another red card, this time for Stockport's Van Blerk  on the half hour saw the Lilywhites win 6-0. A first half hat-trick for Mackem with further goals from Lucketti, Cresswell and McKenna.
