Roger East joined the National List of assistant referees in 2000 before his promotion, in 2007, to the National List of referees. His first match as Referee was a 3-3 draw between Macclesfield and MK Dons on 18 August 2007.

 

As an assistant referee he was on the Select Group for four seasons and the FIFA list for two. Domestic highlights of his career include assistant referee appointments on the 2003 League Two Football League Play Off Final, the 2004 FA Cup Final and the 2006 Community Shield.

 

In 2006 he was an assistant at the Tripoli derby in Libya between Al Ittihad and Al Ahly, which finished 1-1. No Libyan officials could be appointed for fear of subsequent reprisals

 

He was the referee in a Semi-Final Play Off Leg when Stevenage beat Accrington 2-0 on 15 May 2011. The following season he took charge of the League One Play Off Final at Wembley when Huddersfield beat Sheffield United on penalties on 26 May.

 

His first match as a Premier League referee in 2012/13 was a 2-2 draw between Swansea and Sunderland on 1 September. Swansea was reduced to 10 men when Chico was red carded on 71 minutes.

 

After impressing during the 2012/13 season, East earned a permanent spot in the Select Group of Premier League officials from the 2013/14 season.

 

This season has seen him referee two Premier League matches at Arsenal and Southampton. His last Robins match was a 2-1 defeat at Millwall on 1January 2013. His last match was a 1-0 home win for MK Dons against Sheffield United on 28 October 2014.
