Mike Russell stared referring in the 1990's and progressed via the South Midlands League.
He joined the National List of assistant referees in 2000 before being promoted to the referees List in 2004 with his first match being a 3-1 win for Scunthorpe at home to Rochdale on 7/8/04.
He is also a licensed FA coach.
