David Webb got involved in refereeing when he took a refereeing course after seeing an advertisement in a football programme and through talking to referees when he was playing local football.

He was promoted to the National List of Referees at the start of the 2008/09 season and officiated his first football league match on 9/8/08 as Bury beat Bradford 1-0.
