Steve Rushes in for ref's Championship Debut.

The Rushton family has refereeing in their blood. Jim Rushton was a football league referee from 1987 to1996, now his son Steve has taken over the mantle.

Steve Rushton was promoted to the National List for the start of the 2009/10 season after refereeing in the Blue Square Premier.

His first league match was a 1-0 win for Chesterfield at home to Northampton on 15 August 2009. This season in his two matches, (Shrewsbury v Bradford and Scunthorpe v Oldham), he has produced three yellow and one red in each match. Both red cards were given to the home side but went onto win both matches.

As this is the first time he has refereed at Championship level so there are no previous matches involving PNE or Swansea.

His assistants are Andrew Turner from Devon and Mark Weaver from West Midlands.

The fourth official is Mick Russell from Hertfordshire; he was the referee in the 1-1 draw against Doncaster on the same day as Steve Rushton’s league debut. Mick Russell was also the referee in Swansea’s last league match against Hull a week ago.
