Kevin Friend started refereeing at age thirteen within his home county of Leicestershire. His route was via the Leicester Senior League and Midland Football Alliance before being promoted to the National List of Referees in 2003. His first game was on 9 August 2003 between Scunthorpe and Bristol Rovers with the visitors winning 2-1.

 

In addition to being appointed as 4th Official at a U-21 International, he has also been appointed to the FA Vase Final and Football League Trophy Final.

 

The 2009/10 season saw him move to the Select Group of Referees

 

His last match was 12 February with a 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Wigan. His last Watford match was a 3-0 home victory against Reading on 24 April 2010.

His assistants are Peter Kirkup and Stuart Burt both of Northamptonshire. The fourth official is Danny McDermid from Hampshire. He his in his first year as a referee but took charge of Watford’s 3-2 defeat at Portsmouth on 16 October 2010.
