Player Profile Tony Lormor

Anthony Lormor was born in Ashington on 29 October 1970 and made his debut in the 1987/88 season scoring on his debut as a stand in for Brazilian Mirandinha and scored again on his second appearance. Although he had scored 3 times in 8 appearances he could not force himself in the first team picture.

Lormor didn't make an appearance on loan at Norwich in 1988 but signed by Colin Murphy at Lincoln for £25,000 in January 1990. He ended the 1990/91 season by scoring 4 goals in a 6-2 win over Carlisle , and with 8 goals was the top scorer for the Imps. The continued to be the top sorer for the following two seasons with 12 goals in 1991/92 including a hat-trick against Scunthorpe in November 2001 and 9 goals in 1992/93.

A cruciate knee ligament injury early in the 1993/94 season ended his season and was released after 30 goals from 100 league appearances.

Lormor joined Peterborough but only stayed for five months making 5 appearances before joining Chesterfield .

The Spireites signed Phil Robinson a few days after Lormor's joined and saw the club go 21 games unbeaten to finish third with Lormor scoring ten goals from 23 appearances. A Wembley play-off final goal helped Chesterfield to promotion to the Second Division.

Lormor scored 13 goals from 41 league appearances from in the 1995/96 as Chesterfield finished one point from a play-off position. Lormor helped the club to an FA Cup Semi Final appearance in 1996/97 with victories over Bolton, Forest and Wrexham and scored 8 goals from 36 appearances as the Spireitas finished tenth.

Lormor made a further 13 appearances and netted four times in 1997/98 to bring his total to 35 goals in 113 appearances, the last of these was in a 1-0 win at home to Wycombe on 25 October 1997 before joining Preston in November 1997 as a swap deal for David Reeves.

Lormor started well with a debut goal against Luton on 8 November 1997 and a brace in his fifth appearance in a 3-2 defeat at Southend. But the departure of Gary Peters saw him frozen out after just 12 appearances; the last appearance was a 1-1 draw at Walsall on 31 January 1998. He re-joined Phil Robinson, who was now at Notts County making 7 appearances on loan.

Lormor joined Mansfield for £20,000 in July 1998 to replace Steve Whitehall who had gone to Oldham , making his debut in a 3-0 defeat at Brentford on 9 August 2000. He scored 9 goals from 33 appearances in his first season, including braces against Hartlepool and Chester . After 8 goals from 31 appearances in the 1999/2000 season he left to join Hartlepool for £30,000.

Lormor had been training to become a referee and had passed his grade one exams and was a referee in Sunday morning leagues in Lincoln . He also ran the line in the Unibond and Central Midlands Leagues.

Lormor scored on his debut in a 2-0 win against a former club Lincoln and netted 8 goals in 31 appearances in 2000/01, most of his appearances in 2001/02 came as a sub. In February 2002 Lormor joined Shrewsbury on loan and scored twice in 7 appearances, the first of these was on his second appearances against another former club Mansfield. After returning to Hartlepool he was released on 9 May 2002 after 9 goals in 48 appearances.

After appearing for Kettering and Halifax in pre-season matches, Lormor joined another Conference side in Telford but after just 4 appearances he was struggling with an Achilles injury. His last appearance was in a 2-0 home defeat to Scarborough on 16 September 2002 and announced his retirement in January 2003. He opted to combine his job as a salesman and a referee having now reached grade 4 standard.

But in June 2003 Lormor joined Central Midlands side Sutton becoming the clubs Commercial Manger and first team coach in December 2003.

In December 2005 he moved to Heanor Town of the Buckingham Insurance Central Midlands League Supreme Division before returning to Sutton in July 2006.

Lormor has recently joined Mansfield as Commercial Manager.
