Player Profile - Tom Scott

Thomas Scott was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 6 April 1904 and played inside-forward.

Scott began his career with Newcastle swifts and Pandon Temperance before joining First division Sunderland. Unable to break into the first team, Scott joined Third Division North side Darlington in the 1924/25 season. He scored 3 goals from 7 matches helping them to win the title 5 points above second placed Nelson.

During this season Scott returned to the First Division with Liverpool and made 6 appearances, netting one goal for the remainder of the season. This was the most number of games he would play in one season for Liverpool. The majority of the time he was in the reserves and for the next three seasons, he only made a further 11 league appearances, scoring three goals.

In the 1928/29 season he finally got some first team action with Second Division side Bristol City, scoring 6 times from 22 appearances. He made a further 13 appearances in 1929/30 as the club finished just one place above relegation in both seasons.

For the 1930/31 season Scott joined Preston who was also playing in the Second Division. He scored a brace on debut in the 5-0 win at home to Southampton on 30 August 1930 and scored a hat-trick in a 7-5 victory at Millwall on 4 October. He finished joint top scorer on 14 goals with George Bargh after making 25 appearances for the season as Preston finished seventh.

The following season saw Scott miss four months of the season but scored 9 goals from 16 appearances, including a goal in each of the final three matches of the season. The last match of the 1931/32 was his final game for Preston as Preston beat Spurs at Deepdale 2-0 on 7 May 1931. He had netted 23 goals from 41 appearances.

For the 1932/33 season Scott joined Third Division South side Norwich and had his most productive season of his career scoring 17 goals from 33 appearances which was two behind joint leading scorers Buster Brown and Ken Burditt. Norwich finished the season in third position.

Scott helped Norwich win the Third Division South title in 1933/34 with 9 goals from 17 appearances 7 points ahead of second placed Coventry.

After 3 matches of the 1933/34 season Scott joined Exeter for the Third Division South. Scott had scored 26 goals from 53 appearances.

Scott scored 16 goals in 56 appearances for Exeter as they had to apply for re-election in the seasons 1935/36 and 1936/37. Scott then moved into the non-league with Bangor City. He passed away in 1979.
