Harrison scored his first goals in 1911/12, scoring 3 times in 20 appearances as the club finished tenth. He was an ever present in 1912/13 scoring 6 goals from 38 appearances as Leicester finished in fifteenth position.

After 9 goals from 59 appearances Harrison joined First Division Everton making 35 appearances in his first season. The 1914/15 season saw Everton win the League title netting 4 goals from 26 appearances.

The league programme was suspended but played wartime football with Everton. Harrison returned to the side when league football began again in 1919/20. His most profitable season was in 1920/21 scoring 8 goals from 38 appearances and won 2 international caps for England.

After 177 league appearances and 17 goals Harrison joined Preston. He made his Preston debut in a 2-1 draw at Chelsea on 8 December 1923. His first goal came in his second appearance a week later in a 4-0 win against Middlesbrough. The goal came from the penalty spot which in his Preston career took 35 penalties, scoring 29 and converting 4 of the 6 he missed. Harrison had one of the hardest shots in football and aimed his penalties straight at the goalkeeper.

Harrison scored 8 goals from 38 appearances including a brace in a 3-2 win against West Ham, but could not help the Lilywhites avoid relegation in 1924/25. A similar number of appearances were made in the next two seasons.

He only missed one match in the 1927/28 seasons, netting 15 goals including an hat-trick in the opening league match at Deepdale as PNE won 4-2 against Hull. The 1928/29 he only missed the final match of the season as he scored 16 goals including four goals in a 5-2 win against Grimsby on 3 November 1928. His 250th league appearance came in a 1-1 draw with Bradford Park Avenue on 29 January 1930.

After 72 goals in 274 league matches his last appearance came in the 2-2 draw at home to Bristol City on 25 April 1931.

Although he was in his fortieth year he had one last season in him when he joined Blackpool scoring twice in 16 appearances.

On retiring from the game he became a licensee in Church Gresley until his death in 1939.
