Player Profile MARK STALLARD

Mark Stallard was born in Derby on 24 October 1974 and made his debut for him home town club coming on as a substitute against Oxford in September 1991 as a sixteen year old.

Stallard signed professional forms on 6 November 1991 and stayed with Derby for over 5 years making 27 appearances and scoring 2 goals. During his period with the Rams Stallard made 4 loan appearances at Fulham in September 1994.

Stallard was not part of Jim Smith's plans at Derby and joined Bradford City on loan on 12 January 1996. After a substitute appearance he signed permanently a week later for a fee of £110,000.

Stallard was instrumental in helping Bradford finished sixth in 1995/96 and reach the play offs, after scoring 9 goals in 20 league appearances. Stallard scored the deciding goal in their victory over Blackpool in the semi's and scored the second goal in their 2-0 victory over Notts County in the Second Division Play Off final at Wembley.

Stallard scored in his first game of the 1996/97 season in Bradford's 3-1 victory against Portsmouth. But a drop in form caused him not to score in his next 21 league games. His final goal for Bradford was a 2-1 home defeat against Sheffield United in the League Cup.

On St. Valentines Day in 1997 Stallard joined Gary Peters for the first time and made his debut for Preston the following day in a 2-1 win at home to Wycombe. The following week saw him play in the away defeats at Luton and Hull before making his fourth appearance by scoring in the 3-1 victory at home to Bury on 1 March 1997.

Stallard had made a good impression during his loan spell at Preston but left abruptly to sign for Wycombe for a fee of £100,000 on 7 March. Stallard scored on his debut 24 hours later in a home victory against Bristol Rovers and again the following week in the defeat at Chesterfield. Stallard scored two further goals in 9 appearances that season including one in a 5-0 victory against Burnley.

The 1997/98 season saw Stallard score 18 goals for the season as Wycombe finished one place above PNE in 14 position. His goals including a hat-trick in a 4-2 home win against Walsall and a brace in victories against Blackpool, Southend and Plymouth.

In October 1998 Stallard suffered a medial ligament injury and missed three months of the season. Stallard returned for a further four games before signing for Notts County on 2 March 1999 for £10,000. Stallard had scored 23 goals in 73 league appearances.

Stallard made his debut at home to York on 13 March and scored his first goal for the club three days later in a 2-1 defeat at Manchester City . Stallard scored seven goals in 1999/2000 with a brace in his third league appearances on the season, a 3-0 victory against Scunthorpe .

The following season Stallard was leading scorer for Notts County , scoring 17 league and 7 cup goals. Only once did he score more than one goal in a game; this was when he scored both goals in a League Cup victory against Hull.

The season of 2001/02 was a disappointing return for Stallard with only 4 goals. Following a goal in a defeat at Oldham at the end of September he didn't score in the remaining 16 appearances of the season.

Stallard was again top scorer in 2002/03 with 24 league goals, scoring twice in a game on six different occasions. Stallard's final game for Notts County after 185 appearances and 66 goals was an away victory at Wrexham on 17 January 2005.

The clubs financial situation led to Stallard joining fellow league two outfit Barnsley on a free transfer four days later. Stallard made his debut on 24 January in a 1 -0 defeat at Brighton . Stallard scored three days later on his home debut three days later in a 3-0 win against Blackpool This turned out to be the only goal he would score for them as Barnsley finished 12 as Barnsley drew five and lost three of his remaining eight appearances in 2003/04.

Stallard made four appearances at the start of the 2004/05 season. After his appearance at Huddersfield in a 2-0 win on 18 September 2004 he became surplus to requirements. Initially Stallard went on a three month loan with Chesterfield , making his debut in a 2-2 home draw against Bristol City on 2 October 2004. In total Stallard scored twice in nine appearances for Chesterfield . His last goal for the club was in his final game as Chesterfield lost 3-2 at Wrexham.

On his return to Barnsley, Stallard made one final appearance on 22 January 2005 in a 2-2 draw at Stockport. In his 15 appearances Stallard only finished on the winning side twice.

On 2 February 2005 Stallard joined his previous club Notts County for a three month loan until the end of the season. By this time Notts County had dropped to the fourth tier. His first appearance in his second spell was in a 1-0 home defeat to Mansfield . In the 16 appearances for Notts County, Stallard scored three goals.

Stallard was released by Barnsley, with two other players at the end of their contracts, in June 2005 and signed for Gary Peters for the second time on 3 July 2005, this time with Shrewsbury.

Stallard made his debut for Shrewsbury in the 1-0 home defeat against Rochdale on 6 August 2005. His first goal for the club was in the League Cup victory over Brighton, but his first league goal was in his 14 league appearance on 29 October in a 3-1 home victory against Chester . His final goals were a brace in the 4-1 win against Rushden on 18 April 2006. His final league appearance for the Shrews after 37 appearances and 6 goals was on 6 May 2006 in a 1-0 victory at Chester.

The form of ex PNE player Kelvin Langmead allowed Peters to let Stallard join Lincoln on 20th July 2006. Stallard made his debut at home to former club Notts County on 5 August and scored both goals three days later in a 2-1 victory at Hereford . Stallard has scored a brace on three further occasions this season in 3-1 victories against Accrington and Wycombe and in the 7-1 thrashing of Rochdale on 29 October 2006.
