Player Profile – Thomas Pritchard

 

Thomas Francis Pritchard was born in Wellington on 18 June 1904. The Centre-Half started with Wolverhampton Great Western Railway as a boiler maker and had a trial with Wolves in 1924.

 

He later worked in a Cycle factory and played for Sunbeam Motors at the weekends. In 1925 Pritchard made his league debut as an amateur as he appeared twice forStockport.

 

In 1926 Pritchard joinedNewportand scored his first league goal as he made 23 appearances for the club. The following year he joined first division Wolves and in two seasons Pritchard scored 3 times in 56 appearances.

 

The arrival of Reg Hollingsworth (who stayed for 7 seasons) saw Pritchard transfer to Second Division Charlton in 1929. Pritchard made 43 league appearances for the Addicks in two years before breaking his leg against former club Wolves.

 

In November 1931 he joined Thames FC and scored once in 27 appearances, unfortunately the club conceded 109 goals as they finished bottom of Division Three South.

After a spell in France with Marseille, Pritchard joined Preston in 1933, but only made one appearance in a 3-2 victory over Manchester United on 21 February 1934. Preston finished runners-up to Grimsby and was promoted to the First Division.

 

Pritchard joined Lancaster City before becoming a trained with Mansfield and made one league appearance for the Stags.

 

Thomas Pritchard died in 1980
