Player Profile Harry Hirst

Henry (Harry) Hirst was born in Horbury on 24 October 1899. He made his debut for Second Division Rotherham County in the 1921/22 season.

Hirst struggled to get into the Rotherham side and saw his team relegated to Division Three North in the 1922/23 season as they finished 1 point behind Stockport and Leyton Orient.

After only three appearances, scoring one goal Hirst joined Preston . He made only two appearances for Preston in the 1924/25 season. His debut was on 22 November 1924 in a 1-1 draw at Bury. Although he was normally a right-back, he wore the number four shirt for the Lilywhites playing at right-half. After missing the home game defeat against Manchester City the following week, he made his final appearance in a 4-0 defeat at Arsenal on 6 December. He suffered his second relegation as Preston finished seven points behind third from bottom Arsenal.

The 1925/26 season Hirst joined Queen's Park Rangers and made 26 appearances as QPR finished bottom of Division Three South, 14 points behind second bottom Charlton.

The following season saw Hirst joined their London neighbours Charlton and made 4 appearances as Charlton finished in 13 th position.

Hirst then joined the newly formed club Thames FC who had joined the Southern League and finished 14 th in their first season.

Hirst had left before Thames gained a football league place in 1930/31 replacing Merthyr Town in Division Three South. But after finished bottom in 1931/32 the club didnâ't seek re-election and was replaced by Aldershot.
