David Neil Trebble was born in Hitchin on 16 February 1969. He started his career with non-league Stevenage Borough before joining Scunthorpe on 8 July 1993 when he quit the army to play professional football. His one season with the Irons saw Trebble scored twice from 14 league appearances as Scunthorpe finished eleventh in Division Three.

On 18 July 1994 Trebble joined John Beck at Preston on a free transfer and made his debut on the opening day of the 1994/95 season as PNE drew 0-0 at Darlington on 13 August. Trebble scored 4 goals in 19 appearances although three of these came as a substitute. His first goal came as a substitute in a 1-0 win at Fuham and scored his second a week later in the number twelve shirt as Darlington won 3-1 at Deepdale.

His only goal for the Lilywhites in the starting eleven came in another 3-1 defeat at Colchester on 22 October. His last goal came in the reverse match at home on 10 January as Colchester was beaten 2-1.

Trebble’s last match was a 2-1 defeat at Northampton on 11 February 1995 when he replaced Gareth Ainsworth.

Nine days later Trebble joined Scarborough scoring 3 goals from 15 appearances. In 1995/96 Trebble netted 5 goals from 32 appearances before being released.

Trebble rejoined Stevenage for the second time on 31 March 1996 and became a Youth Development manager. The 1998/99 season saw him sign for St Albans, Shelbourne in Ireland and Welling. He joined Hayes from 15 June 1999 to 31 May 2000 his last match for Heyes in the Conference was against his former club Welling on 22 April 2000 with Hayes winning 2-1.

Trebble then joined Arlesley Town were he scored 18 goals from 17 starts in 2001. A magnificent first season in the Ryman League, saw the club lose just two league matches (one at home and one away) as they raced away to win the Third Division Championship scoring an Isthmian League record of 138 goals and gaining the record of being the first club to attain a 100 + goal difference in the league's 96 year history.

Trebble had a spell as manager of Aylesbury United but left soon after a 5-1 home defeat to Bath on 22 April 2006 which confirmed relegation from the Southern League Premier Division.
