The clubs have met before in Friendly matches, notably the Bill Shankly Testimonial. The last meeting was a 1-0 victory for the Lilywhites in 2000.

 

The referee tomorrow is Stephen Finnie, whose last Bairns match was a 0-0 draw against Raith on 19 December 2010. His last match saw him produce 7 yellow cards as Albion beat QueensPark 2-0 on 14 May 2011.

Player Profile – Sammy Taylor

 

Samuel (Sammy) McGregor Taylor was born in Glasgow on 23 September 1933.Taylor joined Preston in June 1955 from Falkirk. The fee was £8,500 plus a floodlit match played at Deepdale against Falkirk.

 

Taylormade his debut in a 4-3 victory over Newcastle on 27 August and scored his first Lilywhite goal in a 3-2 defeat at Manchester United on 17 September. He was limited to 15 appearances as he was mainly the understudy to Tom Finney and Angus Morrison.

 

The 1956/57 season saw PNE finish third in Division One.Taylor netted 12 league goals from 37 appearances, including a hat-trick in a 7-1 win over Portsmouthon 2 February 1957.

 

The next season saw PNE finish runners-up to Wolves asTaylor scored 14 goals from 36 appearances. He scored two hat-tricks during the season in a 5-2 win overChelseaand an 8-0 victory over Birmingham on 1 February, this match saw Tommy Thompson also score a hat-trick and a brace from Tom Finney.

 

Preston finished mid table in 1958/59 withTaylor scoring 3 goals from 17 appearances and 10 goals from 34 appearances in 1959/60.

 

The season following Tom Finney’s retirement in 1960/61 saw Preston relegated from Division One.Taylormade 10 appearances with his final game being a 4-2 home defeat to Manchester United on 22 April 1961. He had made 149 appearances and scored 41 league goals for Preston.

 

In June 1961Taylor joined Carlislefor a fee of £2,500. He was part of the squad which saw Carlislefinish fourth in Division Four in 1961/62 and promotion to Division Three. Carlisle was relegated the following season but were runners-up to Gillinghamand promoted again in 1963/64. In three yearsTaylorscored 12 league goals in 93 appearances.

 

In July 1964Taylor joined Southport, who was signed by ex PNE player Willie Cunningham and scored 3 goals in 36 appearances as Southport finished twentieth in Division Four.
