David Oluwaseun Segun Amoo was born in Southwark, London on13 April 1991.

Amoo represented London as a sprinter in the English Schools National Track and Field Championships and played for Millwall as a youth, leaving at 16 years of age to sign for Liverpool in 2007. He signed a new two-year contract with Liverpool in 2010, having successfully worked his way through the clubs Academy and Reserves to train with the first-team at Melwood in 2009. He was also named in Liverpool's 2009/10 Champions League squad.

Amoo was named in Liverpool’s Third qualifying round squad for a match on 28 July 2010 and made his debut for the club the following day, starting in a 2–0 away win against FK Rabotnicki in Skopje, Macedonia.

On 25 January 2011 he joined Milton Keyns Dons on a month loan and made his Football League debut for the club on the same day as a 65th minute substitute against Leyton Orient. Amoo made two further substitute appearances, both at home with a 1-1 draw against Brentford on 12 February and a 3-2 defeat in the return match at Leyton Orient.  

On 28 February 2011 he joined Hull on loan until the end of the season. He made his debut coming on as a replacement for Jay Simpson in the 1–0 win at Nottingham Forest He scored his first goal for Hull in a 1-1 draw against QPR on his fifth appearance on 25 April 2011.

On 23 September 2011, Amoo joined Bury on loan for a month aade his debut against former club MK Dons on 24 September. His second match on 1 October, Amoo scored his first goal for Bury, a glancing header on 67 minutes to give Bury the lead in a 3–1 victory over Yeovil. His second goal was the only one against Preston on 26 November. He made 27 league appearances for the club, scoring 4 goals. His last goal was in a 2-1 defeat at MK Dons on 21 February 2012s

He agreed to join Preston in May 2012 when his contract expired with Liverpool on 1 July. He made his Lilywhite debut as a replacement for goalscorer Nicky Wroe in the 80th minute as PNE beat Huddersfield 2-0 in the Capital One Cup on 13 August. Amoo made 17 league appearances for Preston; although he only started in 6 of them and didn’t score a league goal. He did score for the club on 3 November as they beat Yeovil in an FA Cup match. His last appearance for Preston also came in the FA Cup in a 1-0 defeat at Millwall on 5 January 2013. He left the club in January 2013 when his contract was cancelled by mutual consent.

On 9 January 2013 he joined Tranmere until the end of the season and scored on debut in a 2-0 home victory over Crawley 3 days later and made a further 10 appearances.

As the club's first summer signing, on 14 June 2013, Amoo signed a two-year deal with Carlisle. He scored his first goal on debut against Leyton Orient in the 5-1 home defeat on 3 August 2013. He later went on to score a brace in the League Cup four days later against Blackburn, Carlisle winning on penalties after a 3-3 draw. He finished the season as top scorer for Carlisle with 8 league goals including a brace in a 3-1 home win over Peterborough on 29 December 2013. Although this wasn’t enough for the Cumbrians to avoid relegation to League Two.
