Player Profile – Gordon Kaile

Gordon Walter Kaile was born in Pimpeme on 7 December 1924 and played as a winger. He played for RAOC Chigwell before joining Second Division Nottingham Forest in May 1945. Kaile made his debut in the 1947/48 season, making 9 appearances as the club finished in Nineteenth position. His first league goals came in the 1948/49 season as he netted twice from 16 appearances, but couldn’t help Forest avoid relegation to Division Three South as they finished one points behind three other clubs.

His most successful season in front of goal was in 1949/50 when he scored 6 goals from 40 appearances as Forest finished fourth.

Kaile didn’t make an appearance in 1950/51 for Forest as they won the Third Division South title with 110 league goals.

After 65 league appearances for Forest Kaile joined First Division Preston in July 1951 and made 2 appearances during the 1951/52 season. His debut came in a 1-0 home defeat against Fulham on 15 December 1951. He wore the famous number seven shirt in the absence of Tom Finney and his usual deputy Harry Anders.

Kaile didn’t make an appearance in 1952/53 and made his final 5 appearances in the 1953/54 saeson. All of them came in the month of September with him scored his only goal for the club in a 5-1 victory at Liverpool on the 6th. His last appearance came in a 2-1 defeat at Charlton on 17th September; in total he had made 7 league appearances.

In August 1954 Kaile joined Third Division South club Exeter and scored once in 6 appearances as they finished twenty second in the only season with the club.

In 1967/68 Kaile took charge of non-league side Blanford United and rejoined the Dorset Combination League after dropping out of the league for four seasons between 1963 to 1967, due to lack of players and funds. He brought the club their first league success in 1969/70 when they secured the title.

Gordon Kaile passed away in 1988.
