Player Profile - Fred Ramscar

Frederick Thomas Ramscar was born in Salford on 24 January 1919. He played for Glentoran and Stockport prior to the War and joined Wolves in the 1946/47 season, scoring one goal in 16 appearances as Wolves finished third in Division One.

In November 1947, Ramscar joined Third Division South side Q.P.R. for a fee of £2,000. Q.P.R won the title as Ramscar made 16 appearances and one goal. The 1948/49 season Ramscar made 21 appearances, scoring twice as Q.P.R finished thirteenth. The following season Q.P.R just avoided relegation by two points. After 4 goals in 51 appearances Ramscar joined Preston in November 1949. He made his debut in a 0-0 draw at Deepdale against Chesterfield on 5 November. Preston finished sixth in Division Two as Ramscar scored 3 goals in 14 appearances; two of these goals came in a 3-2 defeat at Cardiff on 10 December.

His last appearance for the Lilywhites came in a 2-0 defeat at West Ham on 18 November 1950 after netting four goals from 19 appearances.

In July 1951 Ramscar joined Third Division side Northampton and was an ever-present as he finished top scorer with 23 goals as the Cobblers finished eighth. The 1952/53 season he missed just one game as Northampton finished in third two points behind Bristol Rovers. He scored 22 league goals of the 109 goals the club scored during the season.

Northampton finished fifth as Ramscar scored 10 goals from 44 appearances. After 55 goals in 139 appearances Ramscar joined Millwall in September 1954.

His one season with Millwall, Ramscar scored 5 goals in 30 appearances, before joining non-league Peterborough.

Ramscar made one international appearances for Northern Ireland and passed away in 2003.
