Dominic James Ludden was born in Basildon on 30 March 1974. He was an England Schoolboy International and later was the Under 18’s captain.

He was signed by Leyton Orient in July 1992 after playing for non-league Billericay Town. He stayed to two seasons and scored once in 58 league appearances. This was to be the only goal the left-back ever scored in the Football League.

In August 1994 Ludden signed for Watford for a fee of £100,000. He made his debut in a 1-1 draw at home to Middlesbrough on 3 September. His debut only lasted 20 minutes as goalkeeper Kevin Miller was sent off for a challenge on Bryan Robson, with Ludden being replaced by Perry Digweed.

In July 1998 Ludden joined Preston on a free transfer and made his debut in a 3-0 win at home to York on the first day of the season on 8 August. He was a substitute and replaced David Eyres.  He made 32 appearances during the season as PNE finished the Second Division in fifth position.

The promotion season of 1999/2000 saw Ludden just make 3 league appearances during the season. A groin strain and a niggling stomach injury saw his make his last appearance of the season in a 3-0 League Cup defeat at Sheffield United on 21 September.

Ludden had been replaced in the number three shirt by Rob Edwards and was just restricted to two substitute appearances in 2000/01. His final game was a 2-1 home defeat to Grimsby on 23 December 2000 when he replaced Mark Rankine. In total he hade made 37 league appearances for the Lilywhites.

In July 2001 Ludden joined Halifax but again he was restricted due to injuries, making just 2 appearances in 2001/02. He later joined non-leagu
