Player Profile – James Henderson

James Thomas Henderson was born in Morpeth on 10 June 1877. The Wing Half started his career with Second Division Bradford City and made his league debut in a 1-0 defeat at Bristol City on 1 October 1904. The made 14 appearances during the season but was only on winning side three times.

In July 1905 Henderson joined Second Division Leeds City and made his debut in a 1-0 defeat at former club Bradford City on 2 September. He stayed for three seasons making 35 league appearances in 1905/06, 15 matches in 1906/07 and 25 matches in 1907/08. His 75th and last league appearance was a 2-1 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity on 22 April 1908.

In May 1908 Henderson joined First Division Preston but just made 7 appearances, his PNE debut was a 3-0 home win over Manchester City on 7 November 1908. His final match was a 3-2 win at Bristol City on 17 March.

In May 1909 Henderson returned to the Second Division with Clapham Orient. His debut was a 3-1 defeat at Wolves on 13 September 1909. Five days later he made his home debut with a 3-2 victory over Manchester City. Henderson made 26 league appearances during the 1909/10 season and scored his first league goals of his career.

Henderson netted four goals in the campaign; his first was to score both goals in a 2-2 draw at Blackpool on 16 October.  The following month he scored again with a 2-0 home win over Stockport on 6 November. His final goal was the return fixture against Blackpool with a 2-1 win on 26 February. Henderson’s last match was a 2-0 defeat at home to former club Leeds City on 28 March 1910.

Jimmy Henderson passed away in 1958.
