Player Profile Alan McCormack

 

 

Alan McCormack was born in Dublin on 10 January 1984 and joined Preston from Stella Maris BC.

 

He couldn’t break into the Preston first team and joined Leyton Orient on Loan on 29 August 2003 for two months.

 

He made his debut as a second half substitute in a 4-1 home defeat to Cheltenham on 30 August 2003 which saw the O’s goalkeeper sent off on 44 minutes.

 

He saw red of his own on his third appearance with two yellow cards at Lincoln on 13 September in 8 minutes remaining. The following month saw another sending off on 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw against Northampton  

 

He made 10 appearances for the club; the last was a 2-1 victory over Rochdale on 1 November 2003.

 

He finally made his debut for the Lilywhites as a 55th minute substitute for Dickson Etuhu in a 1-1 draw at Burnley on 6 March 2004. Four days later he started in a 3-3 draw at Sunderland.

 

He made a further three league appearances for PNE in 2004/05 all before the end of September, the last of these was a 1-0 home win over Crewe on 25 September, before joining Southend on loan on 16 March 2005. On his sixth appearance he scored both of Southend’s goals in a 2-1 win at Macclesfield on 19 April, McCormack made a total of 7 league appearances for Southend as they gained promotion to League One after victory in the play-offs.

 

On 29 July McCormack joined Motherwell of the whole of the 2005/06 Scottish Premier League season. His debut was a 4-4 draw at home to Celtic the following day. His first goal was the opening goal at home to Dundee United on 20 August, but in the end Motherwell 5-4. In total he made 24 league appearances for the club, netting twice.

 

His last match for North End was a 1-1 draw at Stoke on 30 September; he joined Southend on loan on 17 November before it was made permanent on 1 January 2007, which had been confirmed by Assistant Manager Paul Brush on 11 December. In just over five years McCormack has made just 11 appearances for the Lilywhites.

 

In 2007/08 McCormack partnered Nicky Bailey in centre midfield and scored 20 goals with McCormack netting 9. Although Southend reached the play-offs they were beaten by Doncaster in the semi-final. 

 

He stayed with Southend for just over two and a half years scoring 15 goals from 133 league appearances when he joined Charlton on a free transfer on 7 July 2010 on  a two year contract.

 

McCormack made 24 league with his only season with the Addicks. His only goal came on his second appearance in a 3-1 win over former club Leyton Orient.

 

On 1 July he joined Swindon and made his debut in a 3-0 home victory over Crewe on 6 August 2011.
