Player Profile – Vincent Farrell

Vincent Farrell was born in Preston on 11 September 1908. He started with Dick Kerr’s XI before joining Preston for the start of the 1930/31 season.

Farrell scored on debut in a 3-1 victory at Charlton on 8 November 1930. He scored 5 goals in 11 appearances during the season including a hat-trick in a 4-1 home win over Charlton 17 March.

Injuries limited Farrell to just 3 appearances the following season and just 2 appearances in 1932/33 season. His last match was a 6-2 defeat to Tottenham at Deepdale on 8 October 1932. He had netted 5 goals from 16 appearances.

For the 1934/35 season Farrell joined Clapham Orient and his debut was a 4-0 defeat at Coventry on 3 September. His fourth appearance on 15 December saw Farrell scored his first goal in a 5-2 win against Bristol Rovers. Farrell scored 8 goals from 28 league appearances which also included a brace against Northampton in a 3-2 win on 5 January.

The 1935/36 season saw Farrell score 9 from 29 appearances including a brace in a 4-0 win over Newport and a hat-trick in  a 3-1 win against Brighton on 25 April.

The 1936/37 season saw Farrell score a goal in his first two matches of the season but the goals dried up after that with just 2 goals in his next 20 matches. His last match was a 2-0 defeat at Luton on 8 April 1937. Farrell had scored 21 goals from 79 appearances.

Farrell joined Exeter and scored both goals in a 2-2 draw at Newport on 28 August and finished with 4 goals from 6 appearances. His final match was a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace on 28 December 1937.

Farrell re-joined Clapham Orient but was badly injured in training and never made a league appearance again. He died in 1987.
