Player Profile – Richard Lucus

Richard Lucus was born in Chapeltown on 22 September 1970. He started with Sheffield United and signed professionally in July 1989. Lucus made his debut in the 1990/91 season and made 10 league appearances for the Blades before joining Preston for a fee of £40,000 in December 1992.

He made his debut in the number three shirt in a 2-2 draw at home to Exeter on 28 December replacing Jon Davidson who had held the shirt of the majority of the first half of the season. Following his arrival he just missed 3 matches and made 26 appearances during the 1992/93 season, unfortunately he could help the Lilywhites avoid relegation.

The 1993/94 season saw Lucus make 26 league appearances as PNE reached the play-offs. His final match was the last game on the plastic pitch when PNE beat Torquay 4-1 in extra time to win 4-3 on aggregate. Lucus was a substitute replacing goalscorer Paul Raynor with just a few minutes left in the match.

Lucus was an unused substitute in the 4-2 defeat to Wycombe in the play-off final at Wembley.

Lucus joined Lincoln on loan in October 1994 and made 4 appearances. In July 1995 he joined Scarborough and made 72 appearances before joining Hartlepool in March 1997. His last match for Scarborough saw a 7-1 defeat at Wigan.

Lucus made his Pool debut in a 1-0 home victory over Colchester on 29 March 1997 and made 7 appearances during the season. He made 42 appearances in 1997/98 and scored his only league goals in his career, both were 2-2 draws. The first was at Doncaster on 11 October 1997 and the second was home to Hull on 2 December.

Lucus joined Halifax in August 1998 and made 36 appearances in the 1998/99 season and scored his a goal in a 4-2 home win over York in the Football League Trophy on 5 January 1999.

After 48 appearances Lucus moved into non-league with Boston in July 2000 and Hednesford  a year later
