Player Profile – Dean Barrick

 

Dean Barrick was born in Hemsworth on 30 September 1969. He came through the Youth Training Scheme at Sheffield Wednesday and signed professionally in August 1988. He made his debut in the 1988/89 season and scored twice in 11 appearances.

In February 1991 Barrick moved to Rotherham for a fee of £50,000 and scored 7 goals in 99 appearances.

In August 1993 Barrick joined Cambridge for £50,000 and made 91 league appearances, netting 3 goals.

Two years later Barrick joined Preston as a straight swap for Paul Raynor and made his debut in a 2-2 draw at Colchester on 12 September when he replaced Michael Brown. Four days later he started in the first team in the number three shirt and kept in for the remainder of the season. He made 40 appearances as PNE won the Third Division title.

Injuries limited him to 36 appearances in 1996/97, the introduction of a wing back system saw Barrick just make 33 appearances in 1997/98. He scored his only league goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield on 23 August, a month later scored in the 1-0 victory over Blackburn in the second leg of the league cup but had lost 6-1 on aggerate.

His last appearance was a 2-1 win at home to Bristol City on the final day of the 1997/98 season.

He was released at the end of the season and joined Bury. He made his debut in a 1-0 home win over Huddersfield on 8 August 1998 and scored his only goal 3 weeks later as Bury beat Swindon 3-0.

After 20 appearances he was dropped and joined Ayr  on loan in February 1999. On 28 March 2000 in a 1-0 victory at Chesterfield he fractured his eye socket in two places and broke his nose. He had made a total of 37 appearances for Bury.

In March 2001 Barrick joined Conference side Doncaster on load and scored on his Barrick joined Nuneaton in February 2003 before moving to Hucknall Town.

As a manager he took Hucknall Town to the 2005 FA Trophy final. Later he became the head of PE at The British School in Warsaw, Poland and now teaches in Thailand.
