Player Profile - Shane Cansdell-Sherriff

Shane Lewis Cansdell-Sherriff was born in Sydney, Australia on 10 November 1982

Sherriff's first professional club was Leeds, who spotted him playing for the New South Wales academy team. He spent three years at the club, but only tasted first team football on loan at Rochdale in 2002, his debut was a 2-0 defeat at Qxford on 9 November 2002. Sherriff was released by Leeds during the club's financial crisis in 2003, and signed for Danish Superliga side AGF Aarhus. After three years in Denmark and 7 goals in 82 matches, Sherriff was signed by Tranmere at the start of the 2006/07 season after impressing manager Ronnie Moore on trial and was made club captain, making over 40 appearances in his debut season. His first match for the club was a 1-0 win at home to Oldham on 5 August 2006. His first goal came in a 2-1 Carling Cup defeat at Hull on 22 August.

During the 2007/08 season, injuries to the club's first choice wingers Steve Davies and Chris Shuker and the arrival of Andy Taylor at left back saw Sherriff frequently appearing on the left side of midfield, netting 3 goals in 44 league matches. His first red card came in a 3-0 defeat at Leyton Orient on 8 January 2008. After 87 matches and 6 goals his last match was a 2-1 defeat at Northampton on 3 May 2008.

On 28 June 2008 he signed for Football League Two team Shrewsbury n on a two-year contract.[2] He scored a goal on his debut, a 40-yard thunderbolt, in the 4–0 win over Macclesfield Town on 9 August 2008. He established himself as a first team regular at the club, and in June 2010, he signed a new two-year contract with the club. Sheriff netted a further two goals in convincing 7-0 victories at home to Gillingham on 13 September and in the away match at Wycome in the Football League Trophy on 7 October.

The 2009/10 season saw Sheriff scored once in 41 league matches and scored in his first match of the season in a 3-3 draw at home to Ipswich on 11 August in the Carling Cup. The following season he scored twice in 39 appearances and appeared in both semi-final play-off matches in the 2-0 defeat against Torquay. On 16 March 2011 he was called to join the Australian national squad in Germany, however he did not feature.

After suffering a shoulder injury during a 2-1 home win to Southend on 21 January 2012, Sheriff indicated his desire to earn a further contract extension at Shrewsbury. His 150th and final league match for the Shrews saw a 3-1 defeat at Wimbledon on 9 May with Sheriff scoring his 9th league goal for the club.

A week later, Cansdell-Sherriff joined Preston after rejecting a new contract at Shrewsbury. His Lilywhite debut was a 2-0 home win over Huddersfield on 13 August in the Capital One Cup. His only goal for PNE came on his fifth league appearance in a 2-1 win at Bury on 8 September Whilst at Preston Cansdell-Sheriff was sent off twice at Oldham and Bury .  His final match for Preston lasted just 18 minutes in the 3-2 defeat at Coventry in the JPT on 10 January 2013. Although he remained on the PNE books for the next 16 months he never made another first team appearance to add to the 15 league appearances.

On 30 January Sheriff joined League Two side Rochdale making 17 appearances until the end of the season.

Candsell-Sheriff join Burton on  a season long loan on 25 September 2013 and received a red card on his seventh appearance in the 1-0 home defeat to Morecambe and made 32 league appearances.

He then signed a two-year with Burton Albion after his contract with Preston expired in May 2014
