Player Profile James Miller

James Miller was born in Tynemouth on 10 May 1889. He started his career with Newcastle but didn’t make a league appearance for the club. In 1913/14 Miller joined Grimsby and made his debut on 6 September in a 0-0 draw at home to Notts County. His only goal for the club came in a 1-0 win over Wolves two weeks later.

After the war he played for three clubs in 1919/20. Firstly Everton, making his debut in a 3-2 defeat at home to Chelsea on 20 August. His only goal for the Toffees came on his third appearance on 8 September with a 2-0 win over Bradford Park Avenue. His last appearance was a 3-0 win over Blackburn on 25 October.

Miller joined Coventry in December 1919 and made 7 appearances in 3 weeks. His debut was a 2-0 defeat at West Ham on 13 December.  His last was a 1-1 draw at home to Rotherham on 3 January. The 7 matches just saw 2 victories over Stoke and Grimsby.

Miller made his Preston debut on 17 January with a 3-1 home victory over Middlesbrough. His third league appearance saw his only goal for PNE with a 2-0 win over The Wednesday on 7 February. Miller made 15 appearances for PNE,  his last was a 1-1 draw at home to Everton on 26 April.

Miller joined Darlington for 1921/22 but didn’t make a league appearance.

For the next four seasons he played for a different club in each season, starting with Chesterfield in 1922/23 with one goal in 32 appearances.  The goal, coming in his fourth appearance with a 6-0 win over Walsall.

For 1923/24 Miller joined Bournemouth and made 38 appearances. The following season he joined Swansea, making 25 appearances, his only goal came against former club Bournemouth.

In 1925/26 Miller joined Luton, he made 10 appearances and scored in each of his last 3 league appearances. His final game was to score the only goal at home to Charlton on 2 April 1926.
