December's Review

Last updated : 30 December 2006 By @pnemad
It has been a whirlwind year for Preston and the fans, reaching the play-offs once again and leaving the year unbeaten in home in the Championship sitting in second spot, six points behind Birmingham.

Preston had a topsy-turvy December with three wins and three defeats. A woeful performance at Luton was followed by an unlucky showing at Birmingham before two much needed home wins before Christmas.

Preston then went to West Brom where decisions on another day may have given Preston a kinder result. That match was soon wiped out of the memory as Preston managed a gritty away win at Sunderland for the first time since 1948.

Preston sit in second place as the enter a disrupted league programme in January. After the big match against Derby Preston face Sunderland at home in the FA Cup before a home match against Stoke. Preston face Colchester away at the end of the month and dependant upon the Cup there could be more matches packed into the month.

January will prove an important month as most clubs challenging will be adding to their squads. Simpson will be looking to do the same but when I write next month's review it will be interesting to see if the likes of Nugent and Whaley are still at the club or if any construction has started on the new stand!
