September Review

September was the month when everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief in Preston as the transfer window was no longer open and Nugent was a Preston player at least until January. Unfortunately, that was about as good as it got for the under 21 international who failed to score for the Whites in September whilst also serving a one match ban for his sending off against Cardiff.

The team went from strength to strength with the young back line holding its own with st Ledger receiving an international call up and Chilvers looking more confident.

The side inflicted a defeat on league leaders Cardiff with a workman like performance before putting in a good show to see off heavily fancied West Brom. Patrick Agyemang being the beneficiary of Nugent's abscence by scoring an overhead kick to seal a much deserved victory against the Baggies.

The grudge match at Derby and meeting with former boss Billy Davies saw Preston come away with a point from Pride Park after a spectacular danny Pugh goal. This was followed up by a television performance on Friday night which left a lot to be desired but North End still managed a win against Barnsley.

The month was completed with a lacklustre performance against Stoke where yet again North End did no tplay to their potential but Agyemang on a good scoring run helped Prston earn a draw.

Results meant Simpson only narrowly missed out on manager of the month but more importantly the side sit in fourth place with only one defeat in ten league games.

More positive news was the fitness of signing Neil Mellor alongside the comebacks of Ormerod, Davidson, Nowland and Smith who are now only weeks away from first team action.

Simpson wil be pleased the way things are shaping up and with competition for places becoming more intense and the best from Nugent still to come the North End fans will be hoping for another successful month as two of our favourite teams Burnley and Leeds clash with North End at the end of October.
